Glutathione Overview

Glutathione (L-gamma-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine, GSH) is a naturally occurring tripeptide thiol and one of the most abundant intracellular antioxidants in mammalian cells.

In research models, glutathione has been examined for its role in redox balance, detoxification and conjugation reactions, glutathione peroxidase activity, and the cellular response to oxidative stress.

History

Glutathione was first described in 1921 by Frederick Gowland Hopkins, who isolated it from yeast and tissue extracts. Its tripeptide structure was established over the following decade, and it has since become one of the most studied molecules in redox biology, with a very large body of literature on the GSH/GSSG couple.

Research Findings

Glutathione has been studied extensively in cell culture, animal models and clinical biochemistry. Reported findings describe its central role in maintaining cellular redox status and in xenobiotic metabolism.

Key Areas of Research:

These observations make glutathione a foundational research tool for studying redox biology and cellular defense mechanisms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our products and processes.

Each vial contains the exact quantity listed on the label. A 600 mg vial contains 600 mg of lyophilized glutathione. Research-grade purity supports accurate dosing for experimental protocols.

Peptides ship as lyophilized powder. Every order includes a complimentary vial of bacteriostatic water for reconstitution. Any additional supplies (syringes, mixing vials, etc.) must be sourced separately by the research institution.

Sealed lyophilized peptide remains stable for approximately 2 years when stored properly. After reconstitution, the solution should be refrigerated and typically retains stability for several weeks depending on temperature and handling conditions.

No. Our products are supplied strictly for in vitro laboratory research. Because these compounds are not authorized for use on humans or animals outside approved research settings, we do not provide usage or dosing instructions.

All peptides are guaranteed to be at least 98% pure, verified by HPLC and mass spectrometry. A Certificate of Analysis is available for every batch.

Keep lyophilized peptides in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and light. Once reconstituted, refrigerate the solution to maintain stability and preserve peptide integrity.
